Dr. Annelle Sheline

Dr. Annelle Sheline is the Zwan Postdoctoral Fellow, jointly appointed by the Baker Institute’s Center for the Middle East and the Boniuk Institute for Religious Tolerance at Rice University. Her research and forthcoming book focus on religious authority in the Middle East. An analyst with more than four years of experience living in the Middle East, Sheline has expertise in violent extremism, religious freedom, and human rights specifically in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Sheline earned her PhD from George Washington University’s department of political science in 2018.
